Dr Sim sounds the horn to start the 10km competitive run.
KUCHING (Oct 8): The eighth edition of the Ora Et Labora Run attracted more than 1,200 participants comprising students from St Joseph’s Family of Schools – SMK St Joseph, St Joseph’s Private School, and St Joseph’s International School, as well as alumni, and members of the public.
The run on Oct 4, themed ‘Back to School’, was organised by the Old Josephians’ Association Kuching to raise funds for students’ extracurricular activities.
It featured three categories – 1.4km walk, 5km fun run, and 10km competitive run, which included open categories for men and women.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is association president, officiated at the event.
He commended the three schools and their alumni for their strong unity, as demonstrated during the ‘Back to School Games’ held on Oct 3 and the run.
“Once a year, not only do the alumni and current students come together, but students from SMK St Joseph, St Joseph’s Private School, and St Joseph’s International School also unite as one family of schools to enjoy one another’s friendship.
“Most importantly, they continue to uphold the spirit of Ora Et Labora,” he said.
Dr Sim added that he is proud St Joseph’s remains the only family of schools in Sarawak and among the few in Malaysia that offers public, private, and international education streams under one community.
All participants who completed the run received finisher medals, while the top 10 finishers in the 10km competitive category received additional cash prizes.
Among those present were Kuching South Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Kuching Datuk Simon Poh, and SMK St Joseph board of management chairman Rev Felix Au.
