Established in April 1882, the first band of St Joseph’s Missionaries (or the Mill Hill Fathers) started St Joseph’s School to provide basic education, knowing that education is an important factor in the building of a nation. This first Catholic missionary school in Sarawak was appropriately named St Joseph’s School after the patron of the Mill Hill Fathers – later to be known as SK and SMK St Joseph, Kuching. #oraetlabora
In August 2020, the school underwent an extensive 8-month restoration of the Mill Hill Blocks. The project cost RM5,500,000 which we are very thankful to the Sarawak Government for contributing RM4,000,000. The remaining RM1,500,000 was generously raised by our alumni.
Tomorrow will be the start of April 2025 and SMK St Joseph will turn 143 years old. We are calling all alumni #sonsofstjoseph and friends of St Joseph’s School to come together for a fund raising and donation drive for the first phase of the SJS Master Plan (watch the video). This first phase of the SJS Master Plan would require RM2,000,000 and we will expect the project to start in Q3 2025 and to complete in Q3 2026.
