St Joseph’s Schools Kuching enjoyed a day of renewed and rekindled Josephian sportsman spirit as the old met the young in vying for victory in several games. It was a Back To School event with the return of ex-Josephians to play friendly matches against the present students of SMK St Joseph, St Joseph’s Private School and St Joseph’s International School. The games lined up were Basketball, Futsal, Badminton, Table-tennis, Squash and Pickleball. Fun game like Tug-of-War was enjoyable and entertaining to both participants and spectators.
The Back To School Games event was the brainchild of the President of Old Josephians Association Kuching, YB Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also the Deputy Premier of Sarawak. Initiated by OJA Working Committee and headed by Raymond Goh and assisted by Mei Yin Lye, the event was organised for the first time in 2018. The subsequent years of organising the annual event have seen progressive involvement and participation by school management, ex-students and present students. Honorable Secretary, Louis Ng in his opening speech, welcomed alumni who were not participants to return to school to share the joy and fun in store. Joining the consolidated activity were Archbishop Dato Simon Poh and Fr Felix Au, both of whom were alumni of SMK St Joseph. YB Datuk Amar Prof Dr Sim expressed his wish to see more alumni returning to their alma mater to help in whatever way they can as a gesture of appreciation to their school. Winning or losing in the games is not the priority. What matters is the reunion, reminiscence and rebonding.
